We've listed down our top 50 hottest young actors and would be coming up with the latest updates very soon. Yesterday, we discussed about actors we believed to be quite underrated. How about the young actors we consider overrated? That's what this article is for...
Who qualifies as overrated? Guys who seem to be getting lots of buzz, but has no real talent at all, or perhaps just a small amount of it. I have no issue if an actor gets the cover of GQ or Details or L'Uomo Vogue every month. They can even strut their stuff on the catwalks of Milan and Paris and gain additional media mileage. But to be considered the hottest actor on the planet with nothing to show yet? That is something totally absurd. Anyway, here's our list of ten just after the jump! Updates! To be consistent with the top 10 Most Underrated list, we've removed the rankings. Anyway, the order they are presented are quite random... Chace Crawford: Chace, together with Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan and Taylor Kitsch starred in The Covenant, a forgettable and senseless supernatural thriller shown in 2006. With a 3% RT (Rotten Tomatoes) rating, it was 'obliterated by almost all film critics'. Fast forward to 2009, Chace is part of an ensemble cast for a popular TV series. Both projects require very little of acting and more of 'showing off' - just as a model struts his stuff on the catwalk. Chace is also slated to do Footloose, which he might find quite a departure from the previous two. Crawford was already named "Summer's Hottest Bachelor" by People. You can also assume, he already boasts of a huge fanbase. Oh, by the way, Moviefone just declared Chace and 24 other young stars as their '25 Under 25' Hitlist, with the following intro: The actors you are about to see have combined for numerous Oscar nominations, hundreds of magazine covers, and billions in box office earnings -- all before reaching the quarter-century mark. Before I proceed, let me just absorb this for a moment. Now, if that is not overrating, I don't know what is. - - -Jonah Hill - Actor, screenwriter, executive producer, producer, celebrated personality, celebrity. If I failed to mention a dozen more titles, then I apologize. Words of wisdom, courtesy of Mr. Hill:
It must have been quite frustrating for Mr. Hill not to find any actor who can understand the mysterious functions of his mind. Anyway, I believe moviefans are looking forward to the two scripts he's doing, one of which, will be for Sony. - - -Elijah Wood: I thought he was ‘good’ in The Good Son and I was rooting for him against the evil Macaulay Caulkin, and yes, you would bother me with shouts of “He’s awesome in Lord of the Rings, you idiot!” But the thing is, I saw him acting with Charlie Hunnam in a soccer movie called Green Street Hooligans and he’s just plain out of place and got overwhelmed by the more charismatic and talented Hunnam. Wood plays a journalism student who was expelled from Harvard and went to England instead. Hunnam plays his brother in law and introduced him to the underworld of football hooliganism. It’s like a younger version of Fight Club, but unlike Fincher’s casting chemistry, this one failed because Wood simply can’t make me believe. - - - Michael Cera: Playing a geeky, shy and naive teen who always gets lucky with the girls is a character any actor would love to play. However, when your next 5 films will only serve as an extension of that character, what sort of thrill and excitement can you get out of it? I'm not disputing the fact that Cera has a gift for comedy. In fact, I'm putting the spotlight on that particular 'gift' to make my case... If you're looking for someone with a knack for comedy and can also do awesome in entirely different characters, I'd settle for Jesse Eisenberg or Anton Yelchin. Why Eisenberg and Yelchin? Simple. What both can do in comedy, they can also deliver in a drama, a thriller or even a sci-fi film. Comedic skills is a singular achievement. Versatility, on the other hand, is much more than that. - - - Josh Harnett. I read this article about top 10 Hollywood actors from someone. Here’s all about Josh:
I can’t help but think the author simply have no idea what she’s talking about. The Black Dahlia is simply crap! Pearl Harbor too! Please gimme a break! He can’t even held his own against Ben Foster in 30 Days of Night..geezzz - - -Tobey Maguire…. Oh? Have you seen him in Wonder Boys where he gets to be ‘molested’ by Robert Downey Jr.? How about that pathetic role in The Good German, yeah the black and white feature of Steven Soderbergh with Clooney and Blanchett. It was plain torture! I almost jumped with joy after seeing his character gets killed halfway through that movie. Although he has his share of good acting too, but it seems he's one of the most hyped actors on the planet! But wait, let's see how he fares with Gyllenhaal and Portman in Brothers. Hayden Christensen: After the inept and extremely boring Awake, comes Jumper, the film almost everyone I know love to hate! (the hatefullness is actually geared towards the actor and not the movie or the other cast). In fairness, I think Hayden did a terrific job in Life as a House, featuring the fantastic Kevin Kline who plays his dad. Many would also add Shattered Glass as one of his most notable performances. But these 2 are a minority to his list of mediocre films. If there’s one guy who has the greatest chance of replacing Keanu Reeves as the most overrated actor, it’s this guy. Picture Hayden as Neo jumping all over the place with his shades and a light saber…. Ewww! - - -Orlando Bloom. Yeah, he looks awesome with that pure white hair of a… (what’s his race? ) in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but that’s about it. I am a big fan of Kirsten Dunst and having seen most of her movies, the only one that annoys meto no end and left me disappointed is Elizabethtown. Bloom with his ‘classic’ accent is simply miscast as the grieving son who went on a road trip. Susan Sarandon was delightful as his Mom, and so is Hope Davis, but Bloom? I wish the role was given to someone like Ryan Philippe or James Marsden instead….Or if you want, have a foreign version and see how good it would be if they got Daniel Bruhl or Louis Garrel to play. - - - Shia LaBeouf. I used to admire this guy in Holes, that little movie with the wicked Sigourney Weaver! He’s even cool in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, though he’s no match to Channing Tatum in ALL departments… Now a double celebration, can anyone beat the tandem of Oliver Stone and LaBeouf for Wall Street Two? It's Alexander time once again... - - - Michael Pitt. He was like a lifeless doll in Murder by Numbers. While co-star Ryan Gosling made waves onscreen and off, Pitt remained in the pit (literally). One of his more recent films, Silk, did not even register.... and he's been saying some rather nasty things of late.
If he were Jamie Bell or Jake Gyllenhaal or Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who are all known to be vocal about their views and opinions, then we might listen and ponder. But he's not. If he's seeking publicity, then he's getting it. He obviously needs it. - - - What's on your mind? Do you agree or disagree with this list? Do you think they are all overrated? Let us know what you think! - - - |
