British filmmaker Danny Boyle is reported to be very frustrated with his dealings with the child actors he cast in his Oscar winning film, Slumdog Millionaire.
I don't know about you, but it seems to me these young actors are getting some advice. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen but then again, it might be difficult to understand but we have to remember they are very poor (they actually live in slums) and to get something more from a movie which has earned $377,417,293 worldwide seems like the right thing to do. The demands were supposedly for health insurance for their families, is that too bad? - - -
Last May, it was reported that the home of one of the child actors, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, was destroyed by Mumbai authorities. WsWs.Org reported the incident:
Boyle already donated the sum of $747,500 to a charity charged with providing support to the large number of Mumbai's slum children, which is a great gesture on the part of the filmmaker. To provide us with additional perspective, that sum is about .20% (that's actually .19805, not 20%) of the film's total worldwide Box Office take. Perhaps, he could have given more? Yeah, he's not a charity institution, but then again, he's aware of the difficulties of these Indian young actors right? If additional financial support would mean the difference between their chance to experience some comfort or their continued suffering, why not? - - - What's on your mind? Do you think it's fair for the families of these child actors to demand more financial support from Danny Boyle? What sort of financial support should Boyle provide in order for these young actors to directly benefit from it? Should he even provide more help or he has given enough already? Let us know what you think! - - - |
