There is something to be said about Kate Winslet's acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. After five nominations, Winslet finally won Best Actress! It's really about time. When she mentioned Meryl Streep, I took notice of the generations of actresses in attendance and that both Streep and Winslet belong differently.
The LA Times' The Envelop thinks Ronan is golden:
But how about Abbie Cornish? I just remembered, it was A.O. Scott of the NY Times who wrote a glowing review for Bright Star and exclaimed:
As good as Kate Winslet. More of Abbie Cornish here. Oh, I almost forgot! Precious' Gabby Sidibe is also golden! Someone wrote this comment, which I find both amusing and sarcastic:
I'd change the Vogue spread and make it an O fashion spread and she'll wear only Hermes, plus an extremely serious talk with the self-proclaimed defender of the morals of America's youth Tyra Banks! Kidding aside, with back-to-back acclaims from every Film Festivals it was shown and with the current impressive Box office performance, Precious is a serious contender for Best Picture and Gabby for Best Actress. Another possible contender is Natalie Portman who will appear alongside Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal in Jim Shridan's Brothers. Before someone calls me dimwit for supporting and promoting more and more Oscar prediction sites, I'll say, I've already seen Bright Star, An Education, The Young Victoria and Julie and Julia. Carey Mulligan was simply phenomenal, while Abbie Cornish was equally impressive. Emily Blunt is always a pleasure to watch on screen and Meryl Streep is simply one-of-a-kind. I'll be thrilled if Mulligan wins, but I have high expectations for Ronan's performance in The Lovely Bones. - - - What's on your mind? Are there any other actresses who should be nominated for this coming Oscars? Do you think Saoirse Ronan, at 15 years of age, should win? - - - |
